The tithi is computed to the second from the sidereal Sun–Moon angle (Swiss Ephemeris, Lahiri); the fasting day follows the Smarta rule: the day Ekadashi prevails at sunrise. If it prevails at two sunrises, the second day; if at none, the day it runs; and if no Dvādaśī is left at the next sunrise, one day earlier. Sunrise depends on the city, so the day can too — these are New Delhi's. We also computed Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Lucknow and Jaipur: every Ekadashi listed here falls on the same day there. All 49 dates of 2026 and 2027 match Drik Panchang (checked for New Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai); our tithi start and end times come 1–2 minutes later than Drik's, because Drik's Moon runs about 30″ ahead of NASA JPL's while ours agrees to within 2″. Pāraṇa is the next day, inside Dvādaśī but never during Hari Vāsara (its first quarter): in the prātaḥkāla (the first fifth of daylight), or, if Hari Vāsara runs past it, in the aparāhna (the fourth fifth), skipping midday. Our 48 pāraṇa windows for 2026-27 agree with Drik Panchang's to within a minute. The Vaishnava/ISKCON rule (Daśamī-viddha, aruṇodaya) sometimes fasts a day later; it is not shown here.

- When is Nirjala Ekadashi in 2026?
- On Thursday, 25 June 2026 (Smarta, New Delhi) — Śukla pakṣa of Jyeṣṭha. The Ekadashi tithi runs from 18:13 IST on 24 June to 20:10 IST on 25 June. Pāraṇa on 26 June between 05:25 and 08:13 IST.
- When is Devshayani Ekadashi in 2026?

- When should the Ekadashi fast be broken (pāraṇa time)?
- The next day, within Dvādaśī tithi and only after Hari Vāsara — the first quarter of Dvādaśī — has passed. The preferred time is the prātaḥkāla (the first fifth of daylight after sunrise); pāraṇa is not done at midday, so when Hari Vāsara runs through the morning it moves to the aparāhna (afternoon). The table gives every pāraṇa window for New Delhi sunrise; in your city it can shift by a few minutes.
- Does the Ekadashi date depend on the city?
- Yes, because the fasting day is set by the tithi prevailing at sunrise. When Ekadashi begins or ends within minutes of sunrise, east and west India can fast on different days. The dates here are for New Delhi, and we checked seven more major cities.
- What is the difference between Smarta and Vaishnava Ekadashi?
- Smartas look at the tithi at sunrise. Vaishnavas (including ISKCON) skip a day if Daśamī is still present at aruṇodaya — about 96 minutes before sunrise — and fast the next day, so some years the two fasts fall a day apart. This page gives the Smarta dates.
