Karma — action in the world: career, profession, status and public reputation, authority, dealings with government, the visible works one leaves behind. The zenith kendra and an upachaya: planets here act in public and improve with effort; its four karakas (Sun authority, Mercury skill, Jupiter wisdom, Saturn labor) name the four ingredients of lasting work.
